Record stores in Helsinki With the music industry in times of change and the biggest record shops vanished from the street view, Helsinki still holds on to a fine selection of excellent spots to browse through and stock up on records. We compiled a list for vinyl lovers and other music enthusiasts.
Celebrating 45 years in business in summer 2016, Digelius has often been listed as one of the best record stores in the world. A wide selection of new and used CDs and vinyls. With a focus on jazz, world music, folk, experimental and classical, Digelius is a neighbourhood landmark. The owner, Emu, is a Helsinki legend and an avid bird enthusiast.
Since 1977, the Eronen record and book store sits side by side with Digelius in the same cross streets in the Punavuori district. The wide vinyl selection includes e.g. reggae, salsa, soul, Brazilian, Afro, classical and jazz music.
Next to the legendary rock venue Tavastia, this almost-as-legendary record store (with a name translating as the Yellow Icebreaker) sells both new and used CDs and vinyls. From rock to metal, indie to punk, blues to country, and progressive to jazz - worth a visit.

Finland's biggest record store chain has two excellent branches in Helsinki. The vinyl selection at the Hakaniemi location is worth a mention.

Housed within the Good Kicks sneaker store on Iso Roobertinkatu, this small but mighty vinyl store has a wide selection of rap, techno, house, jungle, soul and disco. Run by Heikki Vaht, also known as an established DJ and the head of the Top Billin' record label.

Situated in the crossing of five South Helsinki streets, Viiskulma, this record store sells used vinyls with an expert touch. Also available: vinyl players and other equipment.
BLACK AND WHITE MUSIC
COMBAT RECORD SHOP
Specialised in punk records, this pearl found on Vaasankatu was first founded as a spin-off of the Combat Rock Industry record label. With a cult status around the world, this shop stocks also other genres than punk.
HIPPIE SHAKE RECORDS
Focusing on rare 60s and 70s rock and hard rock, their selection includes thousands of vinyls and CDs.
Founded in 2015, this vinyl records specialist in Sörnäinen has both new and used records, and plenty of rarities. The store also has a good assortment of vinyl record accessories.
GREEN GRASS RECORDS
This distinctively authentic record store has vinyls piling from the floor up to the ceiling. The owner Make is a legendary character - his trust is worth earning.
One of the most legendary record shops alongside Digelius. Stationed for years on Albertinkatu, Fennica made a move in 2015 to Hämeentie at the other side of the centre, and is doing well. The owner Erkka Kettunen has been running a roots music record store since 1978, so his expertise runs long and deep.
FRESH GARBAGE RECORDS
Fresh Garbage Records is a newcomer specialised in used vinyl records. Located at the Abattoir cultural hub, their styles range from disco to jazz, from schlager to heavy, and from punk to progressive. Also a small selection of music literature and self-released tapes. Open from Wednesday through Saturday.

Since 1960, this specialist in classical music is now found inside the Helsinki Music Centre.

Found around the southern Helsinki record store hotspot of Viiskulma, this small, atmospheric and excellent record store has a wide selection of Russian and Eastern European vinyls, as well as a run-through of soul, rap, rock, pop, jazz and rarities.
A specialist in music collectibles and memorabilia, this store is like from a lost world. Filled to the brim with all things music: over 100 000 items from gig posters to books, promotional t-shirts to guitar picks, special edition records and backstage passes guarantee making a find.
