Liuskaluoto and Uunisaari – A Small Taste of the Archipelago
Right in the heart of the city, a slice of the archipelago. A half-day trip to Liuskaluoto and Uunisaari condenses the archipelago experience right in the southern shoreline of Helsinki. Handy ferries run back and forth these two islands, with a pathway on a jetty connecting the two.
The rocks of Liuskaluoto open up a fantastic view of the open sea. The islet is the home harbour of the second oldest sailing club in town, the Helsingfors Sägelsällskapet HSS. Four years ago, the gourmet pizzeria Skiffer opened on the islet, In addition to amazing pizzas and wine, Skiffer doubles as a gas station for boaters and hosts summertime clubs. Open for all kinds of seafarers and all other folks, too.
The HSS Boat House on Liuskaluoto has one of the city's most beautiful views of the sea. The classic style restaurant has also started a new summertime service to purchase pre-prepared ingredients to barbecue with friends on the outside terrace, such as Iberian pork cheeks and seasonal vegetables.
Uunisaari island has a child-friendly beach, picnic tables and also a newly refreshed restaurant, with dishes prepared outside in the summer kitchen.
