Take Part in Name Competition for the Central Library

A new city library, to be opened in 2018, is currently being built at Kansalaistori square. The new library has so far only held the temporary name "Central Library". We are now seeking a fitting colloquial name for this flagship library. Make a suggestion and win a day full of experiences!

The competition is open to all natural persons living in Finland, excluding persons participating in the organisation of the prize draw or its preparation, their close relatives and the staff of Helsinki City Library.

The competition starts on 1 October and ends on 31 October. Participate through filling in the online form.

All suggestions participate in the draw

All name suggestions submitted by the due date will participate in the drawing of the prize, a day full of experiences in Helsinki, including swimming and a sauna at the seaside spa, visit the most wondrous sights of Helsinki through a 4D movie, and enjoy lunch and a wonderful dinner at a restaurant. Continue the evening with live music, and at the end of the day, spend an unforgettable night in a hotel right in the centre of the city.

The prize is for two people. The winner will be contacted in person in early November.

Submitter of the best suggestion invited to the opening party

The most suitable suggestion for the new colloquial name of the new library will be selected by a panel of judges, chaired by Deputy Mayor Ritva Viljanen.

The submitter of the best suggestion will be rewarded with an invitation for two to the opening ceremony of the Central Library in December 2018. The submitter of the chosen suggestion will be contacted in person in early December 2016.

The new name will be revealed at the open New Year’s Eve celebrations at Kansalaistori square on 31 December 2016. Photo: Keskustakirjasto
