Continuously developing, permanently incomplete, better than ready and more than the sum of its parts – that’s Teurastamo! The former city abattoir is being redeveloped for use by the city’s residents, and the first new restaurants and shops have already been opened. In summertime the courtyard is filled with terraces, a good vibe and the city’s coolest happenings. Here you will a grill, hammocks and beach chairs that can be used freely by the public. There is even a sauna in the basement that was once used by the abattoir’s workers.
The unique redbrick buildings that were originally built in 1933 to serve as the city abattoir are being gradually renovated over the coming years to house new life and new and creative uses. The Abattoir is already home to the best ice cream factory in town, the Teurastamon Portti restaurant serving its legendary Rosburgers, the B-Smokery restaurant that got its start during Restaurant Day, the city’s only Hot Pot restaurant Ho’s Food, and the Flavour Studio chef school and event space.
