Javier Diez
Javier Díez is an industrial designer and together with his brother José Luis, interior designer, form the díez+díez diseño(www.diezmasdiez.com) studio which specializes in product design; among others, they have developed products for B.D. Design Editions, mago:urban, MiSCeL·LàNia, Escofet 1886, Ecoralia, Gitma, Cabanes Technology & Design, Alpujarreña, Mata, Porcelanas Bidasoa, Chiruca, Ona, Taxidermista Restaurant, Natural, Metalibérica, Arturo Escudero, etc, etc
díez+díez diseño have obtained a Silver Delta Award (2005) from the Industrial Designers Association for the Promotion of Decorative Arts (ADI-FAD) as well as an award from the Spanish Association of Design Professionals (AEPD) (2004) both with the GODOT bank.

And they are ecological!!!
On my first and I’m sure not my last visit to Helsinki, I have been able to test things on the land that I already knew, or at least sensed; for example the fact that the tradition of design and Finnish architecture goes far beyond Alvar Aalto and that for some time, they have been escaping from under its shadow, just as naughty grandchildren sneak away from the care of their grandparent, searching for that strange midnight sun, a series of creators, who viewing themselves within tradition, have achieved contemporaneity without traumatic effect.
In addition, and this I must admit has been new for me, I have proved that the Finns are not as cold and distant as, surely influenced by simplified climate prejudices, we may have thought; the simplest warmth, the playful intimacy and also my beloved irony can be glimpsed in many of their designs, providing its refined function, a direct descendant to the historic critical regionalism, a surplus of intimacy, which without going into the histrionics of many objects (and current designers), make of their products, nice .
If all this were not enough, they are also ecological; without understanding ecology as a passing fashion, or sustainability as a circumstantial trend or a mere media label, but in a way that could almost be defined as genetic; a biophilia born of a sensitive look at one's most immediate environment which results in the certainty of its precarious balance, which is but a reflection of our own vulnerability.

¡¡¡Y encima son ecológicos!!!
En mi primera y estoy seguro que no última visita a Helsinki, he podido comprobar sobre el terreno cosas que ya sabía, o al menos intuía; por ejemplo que la tradición del diseño y la arquitectura finlandesa va mucho más allá de Alvar Aalto y que de su alargada sombra hace tiempo comenzaron a escaparse, como traviesos nietos que se escabullen del cuidado del entrañable abuelo, buscando ese extraño sol de medianoche, una serie de creadores que, sabiendo mirarse en la tradición, han sabido asumir la contemporaneidad sin rupturas traumáticas.
Además, y eso tengo que reconocer que si ha sido nuevo para mí, he constatado como los fineses y finesas no son tan fríos y distantes como, seguramente influenciados por simplificadores prejuicios climatológicos, pudiésemos pensar; la más sencilla calidez, la cercanía juguetona e incluso mi querida ironía pueden atisbarse en muchos de sus diseños, dotando a su refinada funcionalidad, heredera directa de los históricos regionalismos críticos, de un plus de cercanía, que sin llegar al histrionismo de muchos objetos (y diseñadores actuales), hacen de sus productos, amables.
Y si todo esto no fuese suficiente, también son ecológicos; pero sin entender el ecologismo como una moda pasajera, o la sostenibilidad como una tendencia circunstancial o una mera etiqueta mediática, sino de una manera que casi podríamos definir como genética; un planteamiento biofílico que nace de una mirada sensible a su entorno más inmediato y que da como resultado la certidumbre de su precario equilibrio, que no es sino reflejo de nuestra propia vulnerabilidad.
