On European Academic Heritage Day, the University Museum of Helsinki will host a guided tour of the university's historic main building.

On the tour, you'll hear about the peculiarities of the architecture of the older side of the main building designed by C. L. Engel, stories of plaster sculptures based on ancient mythologies, the historic strata of the Great Hall, and the university's latest art acquisition. Why is there only a copy of Albert Edelfelt's painting in the Great Room? Who were among the university's first female students?

The feast day has been celebrated in European universities since 2012 and has been established by UNIVERSEUM, a collaborative network of European university museums and collections. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness about the cultural heritage of universities and the importance of science.
