Guided Walk on Pihlajasaari Island in Helsinki (2 h)
During the walk, participants get to explore the island's rich history, uncovering its various historical layers. During the 19th Century, fishermen used the sheltered lagoon for their fishing boats and were spreading out their baits on the large smooth rocks for commercial fishing
After 1870’s the first big villas were built, and a community of villa owners was established. An integral part of the island’s lifestyle included sailing and engaging in sailing boat races.
The islands were also fortified during the First World War and large petrol tanks were put onto the island. The idea of establishing recreational areas for city inhabitants was spread in Finland and in the 1920’s sandy beaches were built to Pihlajasaari, and camping on the island was allowed.
The island boasts stunning flora and fauna, with a variety of landscapes, including rocky sections, forests, and coastal meadows. The group will be stopping occasionally and will get to know about the archipelago nature more in detail.
The kiosk and the restaurant located on the island offer possibility for a snack pause in the end of the tour and participants may decide to stay on the island or travel back to mainland with the water busses.
The guided walking tour is ca. 3 km long. The route is sandy and partially slightly ascending. We offer the possibility to peak closer into fortifications and rocky areas, that may be slippery and difficult to walk on. However, this is not part of the official tour. The Tour begins at the harbor and separate arrangements can be made upon request.
The water bus transfer cost is not included in price.
