Isosaari, 00860 Helsinki
Since the 16th century Isosaari island, a pearl in the outer archipelago of Helsinki, has been a landmark for sailors and as a base for fishermen, later a military base and a research centre. From 2017 the island has been developed as a tourist and nature attraction. On the island you'll find two sandy beaches for sunbathing and swimming, three saunas (with public hours as well as for rent), restaurant Upseerikerho with a beautiful sea view, a 9-hole golf course (par-3) built in the 1980's, a guest harbour, hotel boat, Nolla cabins and a tent area (camping fee is paid at Upseerikerho). The public sauna, Haapala, is heated on guest cruise days. Separate dressing rooms for men and women, sauna and shower however is together for both, so swimming suit is obligatory. Please bring your own towel and toiletries! The entrance to the sauna is free. The ferry to the island runs in May-September. The departure point is at the Market Square from the vertical quay on the west side of the Suomenlinna ferry. It is recommended to book tickets to the ferry in advance.
