Two stunning bands with West African background will perform at the event, and there will be African Bazaar at Malmitalo's lobby. Warmly welcome to this early summer celebration!

Cheick Cissokho is a member of Cissokho Jalikunda family, a highly respected Senegalese music family. The men of the family have been dedicated to playing a beautiful sounding kora harp as an unbroken chain since the 13th century. Kora player Cheick Cissokho also plays percussion, especially djembe and traditional instruments of Casamance area in southern Senegal. Cheick has lived long in Finland, and he works with many bands (e.g. Sila Fato, Afro Chamber Music, Mama Africa, Cheick Trio, Badinkunda).

Cheick Cissokho combines traditional Senegalese rhythms with modern soundscapes. His captivating melodies will enchant listeners. Cheick is about to release his debut album, Koulouro. At Malmitalo's gig, we could hear songs from the Koulouro album interpreted live by talented musicians and enjoy the magical sound of kora.


At Yelee's concert, we will enjoy West Africa's rich musical tradition, gorgeous dance and comedy. Helsinki-based Griot musicians Issa Dembele, Adama Kone, Issiaka Dembele and Siaka Coulibaly are from Burkina Faso and Mali. They play traditional music of Mande area. Annina Tuhkunen, a dance teacher who has specialized in dances in the Mande area, accompanies the music with incredible dance.

The show will be full of energy, joy and irresistibly danceable tunes. Impressive rhythms of balafons and djembes will nourish our bodies and souls. Mind will get on a beautiful and colourful journey to West Africa.


Malmitalo's lobby will be transformed into a bazaar, showcasing designers with African background and stallholders inspired by African cultures. There will be e.g. crafts, bags, home decor, natural beauty products, jewellery and clothing. The bazaar will open 5pm and we could enjoy the bazaar atmosphere before and in between the gigs. During the event, you could enjoy snacks and drinks at Malmitalo's restaurant (A licenced).

Please note that there are 200 seats for the gigs at the concert hall, entry in order of arrival.
