Busójárás or Busó walk/parade is an annual ritual in Mohács, where people dance and walk in procession through the city. Participants in the parade wear scary masks and costumes. The celebration was also inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2009 and on Hungary's national treasures, the Hungarikum, in 2012.
"Busó" means "masked participant". Traditions like Busójárás are found in other parts of the world and the tradition is described in two related stories, one of which tells of people dressing up in scary masks and costumes to ward off Turkish invaders - or to ward off winter.
The workshop will be led by visual arts teacher Niina Ala-Fossi.
