The unfinished Quartet movement by Franz Schubert is electrifying with its restless tremolos at the beginning, which could depict horror, fear, or a getaway. Janáček's Kreutzer Sonata masterfully reflects the passionate emotions of Tolstoy's novel of the same name. While in the United States, Antonín Dvořák visited Czech immigrants in Spillville, Iowa. There he was struck by intense homesickness, and fervent creativity gave birth to a magnificent Quartet in just a few days.
The Czech Wihan Quartet has been hailed as one of the world's finest string quartets. Established in 1985, the ensemble has gained particular acclaim as interpreters of Czech classical music.
