Gruppen Fyra & Kauri Honkakoski: Saattue
A fervent and macabre soul mass for the non-believers – and the unbelievable.
A fervent and macabre soul mass for the non-believers – and the unbelievable.
The 25th anniversary of Gruppen Fyra commences in March 2023 in Kanneltalo with the premiere of the new piece Saattue (‘Procession’), directed by Kauri Honkakoski.
A camp congregation gathers to long for the dead and reach out towards comfort. The dead are released, but will the ones left behind find peace?
Saattue paints a poetic picture of rituals set in the landscape of the collective subconscious. Director Kauri Honkakoski and the Gruppen Fyra dance company continue to combine physical theatre and contemporary dance in a unique way. Saattue is the second, independent part of the Kuolema (‘Death’) trilogy. The first part, Juhlat (‘The Soiree’, Kanneltalo, 2021) explored the fear of life, and featured four people clinging desperately to the past.
Kauri Honkakoski (they / them) is an internationally renowned and award-winning physical theatre director, dramaturge, and Corporeal Mime artist. Gruppen Fyra is a Helsinki-based dance company that plays on the interfaces of contemporary dance, dance theatre and humour. Founded in 1998, the company is run by dancers and commissions work from visiting choreographers. The cast of Saattue also include elderly amateur dancers and actors.
Performance is speechless.
