Harkiten Henkariin: youth flea market
Harkiten Henkariin: A second hand event arranged by youth with focus on responsible consumption at Tiivistämö in September.
The Youth Work Unit for Environmental Activities and the Helsinki Youth Council are arranging a second hand event on Sunday the 24th of September 2023, from 13.00 to 17.00, at Tiivistämö in Suvilahti. Youth aged 13 to 20 can reserve a table for free to sell used clothing they no longer have use for. The flea market tables can be reserved through this link:. More information about the event can be found on Instagram @nuortenymparistotila (The information will be in Finnish. If you want information in English, please contact [email protected] via email).
In addition to the flea market there are workshops with a focus on fixing and refurbishing clothing and making your own natural cosmetics. Furthermore, the sustainability leader and influencer Outi Pyy will be speaking at the event. The event will start with a performance by the alternative pop band Hopeasiivet.
The idea for the event came from workshops arranged in connection to the Nuorten Budjetti participation program. Through the event youth want to bring attention to the topics of sustainable consumption, take a stand against the abuse that takes place in the fashion industry and inspire and motivate other young people that haven’t been interested in these topics earlier.
