Come on your own or bring a friend, a neighbour, an acquaintance, a cousin, your family or extended family – the event is free of charge and open to everyone.
This warm-spirited event is being held at Kanneltalo for the fifth time now. The Independence Day programme is produced by Kanneltalo and PAND – Artists for Peace. The D-asema (D-station) Kannelmäki, Western Adult Social Work, Kannelmäki Library, Kannelmäki Youth Centre and Kaarela-Seura are also involved in the event.

13:30–16:30 | Buffet open to all

13:30–17:00 | Clown Martta’s celebration reception area
Clown Martha (Taina Mäki-Iso) will set up her reception area again to celebrate Independence Day. This time, she promises to be very properly clownish. There will also be tips on being independent and stubborn for everyone interested. All ages are welcome! Feel free to stop by the reception area on your own, with friends or with your family. Martta might just check on your party spirit in the crowd.
14:00–15:00 | Shadow theatre performance: YMMYRKÄISENÄ! and a shadow theatre workshop
This performance for the whole family dives deep into the world of shadow theatre. During the performance, we will be introduced to the Kummala family, who love the circus and telling stories together. After the performance, your whole family can try making shadow puppets and bringing them to life. Directed by Elviira Davidow. In the Kanneltalo auditorium.
16:30–17:30 | Concert hall celebration programme
Keynote speech by Jauri Varvikko, Chair of the Kaarela Society, Kaarela resident of the year award ceremony, and a concert by Snadin Juhlaorkesteri (a professional orchestra).
Snadin Juhlaorkesteri focuses particularly on a traditional acoustic sound. The orchestra’s repertoire is based on old swing, Latin rhythms and music with elegant, nostalgic rhythms. The atmosphere will range from wistful Finnish romanticism to more light-hearted tunes.

14:00–17:00 | Käpykolon väkeä: Syysvieras (autumn guest)
In the Kanneltalo gallery workshop, the authors of the book Käpykolon väkeä, visual artist Zagros Manuchar and author Leena Parkkinen, will teach children and anyone else interested how to make miniatures. Languages: Finnish, English, and Kurdish.
14:00–17:00 | A bag as a self-portrait
The library workshop will hold a workshop where we consider whether a canvas bag can say something about its owner. Join us to design, print with fabric dyes and otherwise decorate your own canvas bag, which will be a bit like your self-portrait. Let’s all carry our bags with pride! Directed by Anne Rossi-Horto and Chloé Mahy-Hulkko.
14:00–17:00 | Daydreaming workshop
We invite everyone to daydream with us. What do your daydreams look like? We will compile a work of art from these daydreams, which will be displayed in the Kannelmäki community space in D-asema (D-station). Directed by Taru Tuomola and D-asema.
