The art exhibition by Leena Lehti is an elegy to boreal forest.

With global warming, the boundaries of vegetation zones are shifting north and the coniferous forest as it is known it is changing and disappearing.

Taiga is made on 16mm film without a camera. It combines hand-drawn animation with real tiny plants and mosses collected from the taiga of Southern Finland.

Media artist Leena Lehti (b.1979) lives and works in Tampere. She is interested in man’s complex relationship with his environment, nature and his own body. Lehti uses old handcrafted film techniques combined with digital video and photography. She has graduated as a Bachelor of Media (TAMK) and Master of Arts (Aalto University). Her films have been screened at international and Finnish film festivals, screenings and art exhibitions.
