Low, Mikko Joensuu
Hypnotic minimalism, immersive avalanches of sound, beautiful vocal harmonies and electronic interference
American duo Low, formed almost three decades ago, could at this point just lay back and cash in on their glorious past, but the esteemed band has none of the predictability of pompous indie veterans.
Every album they’ve made has been a search for new directions – and their sense is second to none. Their album Hey What, released last year, is a testament to this, reaching the top five in best-albums-of-the-year listings of prestigious music publications such as Pitchfork, The Wire and Mojo. The music on the album is like a mirror ball; it reflects hypnotic minimalism, immersive avalanches of sound, beautiful vocal harmonies and electronic interference onto the minds of its listeners. Its fragmented light shows us new ways.
The first act of the evening, Mikko Joensuu, will perform solo and lead the audience to the light. The music on his trilogy of albums (Amen 1, 2 and 3) visits the dark side of pop, mixing country and folk influences, but leaves listeners feeling lightened.
