Pia Pejcic & Katja Sutisna: Natural and Unnatural – Paintings

As painters we are fascionated by wild nature, natural, unnatural, supernatural, humans and nature, faces and trees, gestures, characteristics, roots and leafs.

The on the surface level opposite characteristics of natural and unnatural is interesting, which however is vacillating and hard to detect.

At the end all stems from the endless matter - at least originating from - the wild nature surrounding us, which human beings may well have molded into a more appropriate form for themselves.

Katja Sutisna is a painter working in Helsinki, exploring old forests and groves. She is each time inspired by finding something unseen and strange. She mostly works with tempera and is fond of the slowness of the painting process and enjoys to mix her own paints from pigments and foundations according to old traditional ways. The starting points of the paintings are explorations
and books but at her artist's studio they start to live their own life. Into the gallery space she wants to bring a glimpse of the versatility she encounters in the old forests. The artist graduated from Free Art School 2018 and is a member of Painters Union and Helsinki Artists Association.

The amount is endless, the things, phenomena, ambiances and spaces that can exist in a painting.

Hence, why not such that is natural and unnatural? Is friendlyness as an attitude something that is natural? Is a shape seldom seen perhaps unnatural? How about an overly hectic rhythm of a work
week?
