Leonardo Almeida-Souza: Recombinant DNA technology: Principles, history and uses
The understanding of how the DNA encodes and passes information was arguably one the most influential scientific discoveries of the 20th century. This knowledge allowed to develop a series of techniques, called recombinant DNA technologies, to use and manipulate the information stored in DNA to probe and understand various aspects of our own biology and of all living organisms.
In this lecture, Leonardo Almeida-Souza invites to accompany him through the evolution of the exciting field of molecular biology. From its initial discoveries until its modern uses to manipulate organisms, produce medicines, and cure genetic human diseases.
Finally, he will discuss the future direction of the field and ask the question: How far is too far when it comes to genome manipulation?
