Teija Niku is an accordion artist who specialises in folk music from the Nordic countries and the Balkans.

Teija Niku is an accordion artist who specialises in folk music from the Nordic countries and the Balkans.

Niku has been described as a composer with a fantastic sense of melody and an innovative arranger, whose song-like and unpretentious playing style rises above a mere technical performance. Niku’s third solo album attracted considerable international attention in November 2019 when it rose to the World Music Charts Europe, curated by music journalists of the European Broadcasting Union.

This concert is presented by the Folk Music Department at the Sibelius Academy of Uniarts Helsinki

Etno-Espa is an annual city festival that focuses on modern folk music. The festival presents what Finnish folk music and folk music made in Finland can be today. The festival takes place in Helsinki, on Espa outdoor stage and additional venues from 1st to 10th and 18t of August 2022.
