Finnish Soloists’ Association: The Dawn of Romanticism

The Finnish-born clarinet virtuoso Bernhard Crusell (1775—1838) and the Austrian cosmopolitan composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778—1837) lived and influenced during a period which is today seen in the history of music as a transition from classicism to Romanticism.

Their clarinet quartets were composed around the same time, but are nonetheless different in their style of composition. In the Finnish Soloists’ Association’s autumn concert series the quartet plays with original instruments.
