The Residents, one of the world’s best-known names in experimental music, are bringing their “Dog Stab! The 50th Anniversary Tour” to Finland in the winter. Having released countless albums during their career, the US band will perform at the Savoy Theatre on 21 February 2023.
Formed in San Francisco in the late 1960s, The Residents are known for their pioneering work in avant-garde music. In the world conjured up by the band, surreal art rock meets electronic music, conceptual adventures and experimental theatre. Like Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart, The Residents are one of the key names in early experimental rock. Their concerts are typically performances that combine music, theatre and multimedia. The band members perform under pseudonyms and wear tailcoats, top hats and giant eyeball masks also known as the band’s logo. The Residents have been a big influence for bands like Devo, Talking Heads, The Flaming Lips and Primus.
The tour will feature songs from the iconic 1978 album “DUCK STAB!” and newer material, including some surprises. The band’s latest studio album, 2020’s “Metal, Meat & Bone”, will also be in the limelight. The last time these cult favourites performed in Finland was at the Tavastia Club in 2013.
Before the concert, The Residents' film "Triple Trouble", which premiered at the Chicago, Sydney and San Francisco film festivals earlier this year, will be shown.
