Tribute to Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers
UMO Helsinki Ensemble will take their hats off to drummer Art Blakey (1919–1990) and his Jazz Messengers at this free online concert.
The Jazz Messengers was a sextet founded and run by Art Blakey, operating in an ever-changing lineup from the 1950s until early 1990s. The band’s trademark was aggressively swinging, bebop-based blues-toned Hard Bop.
The band was a runway for young talented jazz musicians, such as Wayne Shorter, Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbart, Keith Jarrett, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, who all have sprung up from this band.
