Supporting tourism and event industry

Until now, Helsinki Marketing's perspective has been on the international market. Now we have turned our attention strongly towards the domestic markets. In this situation, the most important thing for us is to support the tourism and event industry in the best possible way.

The Finnish government and the City of Helsinki have announced multiple ways of supporting local industries. In collaboration with the city's business department and other industries, we have gathered information and help on how the City of Helsinki can aid the tourism industry. We offer help in e.g. productisation, financing, market understanding and digitalisation. Helsinki Marketing's role focuses on creating market understanding, digitalisation and supporting the development of tourism and events.

Market analysis and sales

We have started our market analysis on different market developments in the sector with Visit Finland. We have a clear vision of our future markets when the borders will be opened. Currently, we are meeting with tour operators online and continuing our long-term marketing measures. We are bidding for future congresses held in Helsinki. In addition, we are analysing the themes highlighted in the future for congress and event sales. For example, the themes of security, sustainability and virtuality will certainly become an increasingly important selling point in the future.

Future Outlook

We are also kick-starting our work on anticipating and preparing for the future, which will aim to outline a picture of the future of the tourism and event industry: what will happen to the international visitors and what is the role of the city marketing companies? Our partners and external experts will be participating and helping us to anticipate the future.

What have we done so far?

Reacting to the crisis by creating a Help Chat, creating new content for MyHelsinki and creating the concept of “Vappu at Home” (i.e. celebrating the May Day at home) and a base for the virtual May Day concert.
Adjusting our marketing strategies to the current situation (moving projects and emphasising on the domestic market and locals.)
