Aarni Pieski + Working Group

Sep 19 – Nov 2, 2025

Finnish Museum of Photography

Kaapeliaukio 3, 00180 Helsinki

Aarni Pieski + working group: Carmen Baltzar, Lotta Hagelin, Ritni Ráste Pieski, Shia Conlon.
The exhibition explores the intertwined stories and histories of marginalized people, particularly the experiences of queer BIPOC individuals.

It examines how much of history has been lost, hidden, or destroyed through colonialism. Yet, history has found new forms to survive and continue. The exhibition examines archiving while striving to break free from the Western definition, which inherently carries the ghosts of the oppressor’s gaze, along with those of observation, exoticization, and violence.

How can people shift away from Western archiving methods and redefine what an archive can be?
