The evening will open with accordionist Veli Kujala, whose unique journey of exploration takes him into the world of French chanson.

Pianist-composer Andy Emler, who has visited Finland several times, is one of the most dynamic personalities in French jazz. His long-standing trio with bassist Claude Tchamitchian and drummer Eric Echampard forms a luminous three-piece, with the entire trio taking on the role of the main soloist. The band’s style draws influences from jazz, rock and contemporary music to create an intriguing mix of lyrical and hypnotic atmospheres.

The trio’s fourth album, The Useful Report (La Buissonne Records), released in 2022, was unanimously praised by the music press. The trio, who played a memorable concert with saxophonist Dave Liebman at April Jazz 2013, return to Finland with their new programme, “There is another way”.

Before the trio’s concert, award-winning accordionist Veli Kujala will interpret timeless classics of chanson jazz at Malmisali.
