Mozart’s classical piano concerto, Grieg’s romantic violin sonata, and Copland’s modernist duo for flute and piano form the backbone of the concert’s instrumental music. Vocal music is represented by solo songs by Toivo Kuula and compositions by Jouni Rantanen. Béla Kovác’s Hommage à Manuel de Falla, solo piece for the clarinet, brings shades of flamenco to the program. 

The works represent classicism, romanticism 20th-century music in its nuances – the concert is tied together by the hallmarks of chamber music: musical dialogue, intimate expression, and a variety of ensembles.
