Roots music, psychedelic blues rock and avantgarde are common denominators for Downtown Train Band along with Tom Waits’ music.

The original and surprising Tom Waits has been able to touch a significant number of people, subcultures and art circles. Downtown Train Band has adapted Tom Waits’ songs to a new level while still respecting the original.

The tribute album is divided into old and new production, in which Waits deliberately abandoned strings, focusing instead on experimental blues, psychedelic rock, world music and even rap. The upcoming tribute, released in spring 2025, is the only Tom Waits album release in Finland!

At the concert, Downtown Train Band offers delicious samples of Waits’ career in Finnish, Swedish and English. The unique aspect is that the working group has received permission from Tom Waits himself to translate a couple of his songs into Finnish. These songs, translated by Jarkko Martikainen, will naturally also be heard at the concert.
