Deng Jianjin: Fleeting Bubbles and Brittle Bones
– Psychological Reality and the Illusion of Holiness
The bright and enduring star of Chinese contemporary art is Deng Jianjin, professor of painting at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
His second solo exhibition in Finland deals with the interactions and phenomena of contemporary culture with cutting insight, reflecting the people living in it, as well as the realities and illusions that emerge.
The visual narrative of Deng Jianjin’s works raises a dialogue about the basic essence and structures of contemporary culture, and produces an analytical drama that takes place on the spiritual and material levels.
As the producer and processor of this drama, the artist is also visually present in his works, also expressing himself as part of the world of his works and as its observer.
Deng Jianjin himself says that he wanders between reality and spirituality – the drama and religion.
In the cold December air of Helsinki, my private project Blown Bubbles and Bones bring out a tension that is both light and bony
– a dialogue between fragility and essence.
It is both a dismantling of “psychological reality” and a visual ritual of repentance.
