The experience of childbirth is very significant. It can either break or empower you.

In the documentary Kivun ja ilon työ, two childbirth professionals, midwife Kirsi and doula Anna-Riitta, work towards a better childbirth experience and the right to self-determination for those giving birth.

Kirsi works both in the maternity ward of the hospital and as a private midwife. Doula Anna-Riitta trains doulas at the Doula Academy she founded and supports client families on their journey towards birth. Kivun ja ilon työ explores the personal, social and mythical dimensions of birth, which are revealed both through the documentary footage and the intimate thoughts and stories of Kirsi and Anna-Riitta.
