The Documenti d’amore – Laws of Love concert features medieval European music, Italian Ars Nova with a French twist. 

The “sweet new style”, il dolce stil nuovo, is an apt name for the poetic style and music that emerged in northern Italy in the first half of the 14th century. 

At that time, both literature and music developed new forms of expression. Italian became the main language of poetry, and the development of notation inspired composers to a new type of polyphony and more diverse rhythms. 

This sweet new style can be heard in the Documenti d’amore concert.
