Ánnámáret is an audiovisual world created by the Sámi yoiker Anna Näkkäläjärvi-Länsman and her working group.
It combines the Sámi yoik of Ánnámáret with the electronic music of Turkka Inkilä and Karelian / Estonian bowed lyre jouhikko of Ilkka Heinonen, while Marja Viitahuhta’s video art is in conversation with the music.
The entity draws on both the rich Sámi yoik tradition and the living culture, nature and everyday life of Sápmi, transporting the viewer through images and music into intensely experiential worlds. These ingredients take on a resonant and resonant form in this time, embodying and concretising the search for roots and the revival of tradition, addressing both its positive and more challenging aspects.
Ánnámáret’s yoiks express thoughts about Sámi life in the transition between traditional and modern culture. The band’s sound is based on the yoiks and the modern framework created around them, with the result that old and new collide, but also understand and discuss.
