Fiery tangos and stunning movie music meet in a dramatised concert
The dramatised and visualised concert “from Buenos Aires to Berlin” is a collection of fiery tangos from Argentina and German schlagers from the 1920s–1930s. Helmut Schlagerhauer is a tango master from the heart of hot and humid Buenos Aires. On his way to Europe, he gets lost in Berlin, the city of his youth, and one of its rough jazz clubs, hosted by his past bride, the sparkling and passionate cabaret star Greta Kreuzberg. A surprising mama’s boy, pianist Marco Bach, makes the situation even more confusing.
The concert will feature the music of great German film composers such as Mischa Spoliansky, Friedrich Holländer, Robert Stolz to the spirit of Babylon Berlin, Max Raabe and Marlene Dietrich. A balancing element is offered by the tangos of master Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla, among others.
Singers Reetta Ristimäki, Harri Kaitila and Marko Puro perform the concert, which was written not to be taken seriously. The band consists of clarinetist and saxophonist Kimmo Leppälä, violinist Mauri Saarikoski, double bassist Ilkka Leppälä, accordionist and bandoneon player Mikko Helenius and pianist Marko Puro. Anis Kronidova and Pavel Semchenko, an internationally renowned artist couple, are responsible for the visual storytelling, projections, costumes and make-up of the show.
