Händel: Messiah
Apr 20, 2025 | 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Unioninkatu 29, 00170 Helsinki
The beloved Messiah Oratorio celebrates Easter, the festival of joy, at Helsinki Cathedral, performed by the Cathedral Chamber Choir Viva Vox, the baroque ensemble Musici Cathedralis, and skilled soloists.
Handel’s bright and warm music has brought joy to its listeners for centuries.
The most famous part of the oratorio is the Hallelujah chorus, but many other choral parts and beautiful arias have also become well-known gems. The texts are from the Bible and tell the story of Jesus’ life, from the anticipation of his birth to Easter and the overcoming of death.
The strings, trumpets, and timpani of the Musici Cathedralis ensemble accompany the colorful narration, and in the choral sections, the baroque ensemble is reinforced by the organ, played by Joonas Minkkinen.
