Designed for seniors, HopeaCine’s programme features new Finnish films once a month.

Each screening invites filmmakers or film experts as guests, who will discuss the filmmaking process and offer fresh insights to deepen the viewing experience after the film. HopeaCine screenings are also shown at Cinema Orion and Vuotalo.

Written by Antti J. Jokinen and Jorma Tommila, the historical and action drama film is inspired by the Kalevala.

The Story of Kullervo stars Elias Salonen in the lead role and Jussi award-winner Eero Aho in the second lead role of Untamo. Other roles feature Ilkka Koivula (Wäinö), Olli Rahkonen (Ilmarinen), Krista Kosonen (Kerttu), Johannes Holopainen (Kalervo), Oona Airola (Marjatta) and Ronja Orasta (Aino).

The film deals with the themes of mercy, a longing for a meaningful life, self-discovery and revenge, but also loving your own family. The story is built upon Finnish nature, ancient tribal warfare, ancient myths and Kalevala mythology.
