Stardust from a New World: Katelyn Emerson, organ
Internationally renowned organist Katelyn Emerson offers a varied and surprising selection of music throughout the centuries.
Competition wins, recordings, and concerts in major concert halls and cathedrals. That is what the life of a young international star organist can be at its best. Katelyn Emerson comes to Finland with the Finland Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) to visit the Music Centre’s new Rieger organ.
The concert will be a versatile and breathtaking experience with the concert hall instrument.
The concert begins with a piece by Rachel Laurin, who was one of the most significant North-American organ composers. Laurin’s works are repeatedly heard in major organ competitions as mandatory numbers, but in Finland her compositions are not very well known yet.
The concert ends with Dupré’s second symphony, in which jazz, orientalism, and hammering machine-like rhythms create a massive and energetic climax.
