Casablanca
World War II has broken out, and Nazi Germany’s tyranny is sweeping across Europe. The Moroccan city of Casablanca has become a safe haven for refugees trying to leave Europe and reach the United States, away from the war. Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), who runs the town’s most popular club, tries to remain neutral in all this, but what will happen when Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), an escaped concentration camp inmate, arrives in town with Rick’s former lover, Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman)?
Casablanca is a film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, based on the play Everybody Comes to Rick’s (1940) by Murray Burnett and Joan Alison. Casablanca had its world premiere on 26 November 1942. The film was nominated for eight Oscars (including Best Actor, Supporting Actor, Cinematography, Editing and Music), winning Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Over the years, the film’s reputation has only grown and today Casablanca is considered to be one of the most important and finest works in the history of cinema, and an all-time classic.
