Lauttasaari Music Festival III 2025

Jun 12 – 15, 2025

Myllykallionrinne 1, 00200 Helsinki

The chamber music festival on “the Island of the Happy” charms again! Four days of great music and fantastic musicians from Finland and abroad.

The Lauttasaari Music Festival is an international event focused primarily on music composed for string quartet. The festival’s permanent goal is to present the best Finnish chamber music from the post-Sibelius era, as well as global gems of string quartet music spanning 300 years.

Highlights of the 2025 program include the world premiere of Kalevi Aho’s 5th String Quartet and a celebratory concert for Aulis Sallinen, who will be turning 90. Works by five prominent Finnish-Swedish composers will be presented at the Balder Hall in the heart of Helsinki. Classical masterpieces, such as Beethoven’s, Shostakovich’s, and Schubert’s late masterworks, as well as the young Mendelssohn’s masterful octet, will accentuate the diverse program.

Alongside the current top quartets, the Danel and Animato quartets, Finnish ensembles Kamus, Siba, and Larufest quartets will also take the stage. Finnish composers’ works will be featured during the mornings at the Central Library Oodi, where long-time expatriates and cultural influencers will discuss the state of Finnish art and culture.
