Lena Jonsson & Johanna Juhola is a super duo comprising a Finnish top accordion talent and a Swedish violin virtuoso.
They combine folk music of both countries with their own compositions, creating fresh and bright melodies seasoned with improv. Both musicians have long international careers as vocalists and composers. In this duo, they allow their creativeness and playfulness come together.
Accordion artist Johanna Juhola has reformed the image of the accordion through her performances and compositions. Juhola has released six solo albums and performed in more than thirty different countries. She performs her fantasy tango compositions in her bands Johanna Juhola Reaktori and Johanna Juhola Trio, as well as the Imaginary Friends concert, which combines video projections with solo accordion playing. Juhola has been a visiting soloist of symphony orchestras and has composed music for contemporary dance, circus and theatre performances. As a musician, Juhola crosses the borders of different genres and has worked together with some of the top names of classical, jazz, pop and electronic music alike. Recently, Juhola has also performed with artists such as the pianist Timo Alakotila, singer Emma Salokoski and violinist Lena Jonsson. In 2022, Juhola was granted the NPU award of Nordic music composers’ organisations for her compositions.
Lena Jonsson’s ability to combine her deep knowledge of Swedish folk music with artistic vulnerability and the charisma of a rock star has turned her into one of the busiest folk musicians in Sweden. Jonsson’s playing style draws inspiration from traditional Swedish music, rock, pop and American old-time and bluegrass traditions. Jonsson has been awarded the Swedish Grammy and Manifest awards and was chosen as the Artist of the Year in 2022 in a Swedish world music gala.
