Founded 15 years ago in the colourful alleys of Istanbul, the multicultural Light in Babylon charms audiences around the world with its authenticity and life force.

They combine oriental and Mediterranean influences into stylish and unique ethno-folk, where vocalist Michal Elia Kamal’s stunning strong voice and the beautifully flowing melodies of the santur take the listener on a journey inside themselves and into the world. It is like an untamed beautiful force of nature that smells like the salty waves of the sea and feels like the soft hot desert sand beneath your bare toes!

Light in Babylon wants to use its music to connect people across cultural boundaries. They see themselves first and foremost as global citizens, free from the constraints of religions and nationalities. They love empowering women and bringing upright equality between genders. Michael’s dream is to someday perform in her native country Iran, where women are currently forbidden to sing in public.

The music of Light in Babylon consists mainly of their own compositions, but some songs are also based on traditional sacred Hebrew songs. They have released four albums, the latest one titled “On Our Way” in 2022. Their visually stunning YouTube music videos have already reached over 35 million views, and the number of fans is constantly growing. Now, after a 10-year break, they are back in Finland!
