Lin Da: Yhteyksiä ja yhdistelmiä (Hall 1) and Mortimer Dyster: Yökielonkukka (Hall 2)

Lin Da works in the intersection of dance, visual art and performance. Mortimer Dyster examines the human relationship with nature through a queer gaze.

Visual artist, choreographer and dance artist Lin Martikainen’s, alias Lin Da, new exhibition is a result of the artist’s work with the navel. Da approaches the theme of the bellybutton from a somatic perspective, exploring the experiential relationship with the body, and by engaging with the spectators of their art through imagination and empathy.

The navel is both an artistic question and a bodily memorial: a point through which bodies have previously been connected and where the porousness, sharing and interdependence of life still rests.

Mortimer Dyster’s “Yökielonkukka” (A Lily of the Night Valley) examines the human relationship with nature through a queer gaze.

The work creates a reparative dialogue between queer culture and Finnish landscape imagery, while also opening new perspectives on how to see oneself as part of the landscape.

Dyster’s gaze carries melancholy, mysticism, and poetic realism. His inspiration rises from the night and from the esoteric imagery of the collective queer unconscious.
