Mokoma, a pioneering Finnish metal music band, will embark on a rare acoustic tour this autumn. The band has released two acoustic albums in its long career (Varjopuoli in 2011 and Laulurovio in 2016), and it will now perform in eight different cities in November. In addition to familiar songs from the two albums, the shows will also feature new acoustic arrangements.

“We have missed these acoustic gigs! It makes sense to offer a little more tranquil ambience from time to time to counterbalance our metal sounds. The set will feature familiar acoustic interpretations from the albums, but we have also been workshopping some new song arrangements. Acoustic gigs put whole different kinds of challenges on you than electric gigs, which are very physically demanding. The audience can hear every note, right or wrong, and there’s no sound barrier to protect you, so it’s a delicate situation,” says Janne Hyrkäs, the band’s drummer.

Mokoma will be backed up on their tour by the guitar virtuoso Netta Skog, who is also familiar from the band’s previous acoustic tours and the Laulurovio album.

“If we’ve missed the gigs, we’ve missed playing with Netta at least as much! Netta creates wonderful complementary soundscapes to the songs with her skilful playing, singing and presence,” Hyrkäs continues.
