Discover this Virpi Suutari’s moving documentary, a powerful reflection on the beauty and distress of the vanishing forest nature, as part of the Night of Ideas.
The award-winning documentary Once Upon a Time in a Forest by Virpi Suutari offers a fresh and thought-provoking take on the relationship with forests and their protection.
Its young protagonists—Ida, Minka, Otto, Ville, and Otso—are determined to save Finland’s forests. Facing them are the forest industry and a deeply rooted national ideology that sees forests as the foundation of economic prosperity.
Are these young people heroes—or traitors—for defending lichens and vanishing willow tits?
Once Upon a Time in a Forest will be screened as part of the French Institute’s Night of Ideas. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by one of the film’s main characters, Otto Snellman.
