Piirpauke has reached the respectable age of 50 and will now celebrate the release of their new album at the Savoy Theatre in November.

With their new line-up, the band has been quietly preparing the album Lumo, which will be released in honour of the anniversary year. The album features Piirpauke’s interpretations of compositions by Jean Sibelius, Oskari Merikanto, Toivo Kuula, Selim Palmgren and Yrjö Kilpinen, among others. The first single, Silloin laulan, composed by Yrjö Kilpinen to lyrics by Kanteletar, takes on a new dimension with Paleface’s powerful interpretation.

Led by Sakari Kukko, Piirpauke is undoubtedly one of the most popular Finnish instrumental bands of all time. The band’s debut album has sold more copies than any other long play album released in Finland featuring only instrumental music. The band’s best-known song, Konevitsan kirkonkellot, is still considered a classic and has even propelled Piirpauke to international fame.

Sakari Kukko – piano, saxophones, flutes

Ari Hossi – bass
Ilmari Heikinheimo – drums, percussions
