Have you always wanted to try javelin throwing? Interested in beating your middle school Cooper test record on a brand new running track?
Now you have the perfect opportunity to try out track and field events at the free opening event of the renovated Pirkkola athletics field on Saturday 24 May at 10–12.
The event will be opened by the Deputy Mayor Paavo Arhinmäki. Children can run or walk a mini marathon and will receive small tasty prizes. Adults will have the opportunity to take part in a Cooper test. Sport tryouts and an obstacle course.
Programme:
10:00 Paavo Arhinmäki opens the field
10:10–12:00 Obstacle course and sport tryouts, including long jump and javelin throw (with the so-called youth turbo javelin)
10:30 Mini marathon start
10:40 Cooper test start
11:00 Mini marathon start
11:30 Mini marathon start
11:40 Cooper test start
The Cooper test is a measure of endurance fitness, where you run continuously for 12 minutes. Instructors will count the laps and metres, and tell you the final result.
How to get there: The Sports Park has two carparks. One is next to the ice skating hall at Plotinrinne 1, while the other is located near the swimming hall at Metsätie 6 (payment required). The carpark near the swimming hall also has disabled parking available. You can also access the park by public transport or a city bike, for example.
