This time, the MalmiJazz stage will feature the legendary RinneRadio, which has released new material.

The public received a taste of the new RinneRadio album 4/4 through the well-received single Enchantment, released on 22 August. Following the band’s previous ambient album, Balladium, 4/4 once again, after a long time, brings out the side of the band that clubgoers love. In addition to the core band, the concert will feature a number of well-known collaborators and musicians.

“As the name suggests, this is an album with rhythm at its core, without forgetting the touching wind instrument melodies and ambience,” says Tapani Rinne.

“The themes and the making of the album were strongly influenced by what is happening around us and in the world. The music is a commentary on its time, and the instrumental music is also, in a way, a statement,” Tapani continues.

Two of the songs on the album – the single Enchantment and Raakadataa – were written with the band’s ex-member, drum & bass producer Muffler. There are house rhythms in the songs Haze and Common Times, the latter of which has an ambient feel that makes it lean towards dub house. As the exception that proves the rule, there is one song on the album that is not in 4/4 time. Consequently, the song is succinctly titled 6/4. The sunny Whale was created together with the popular producer Alpo Nummelin. Pauli Saastamoinen, a ‘studio member’ of the band for many years, has been heavily involved in the project as a general quality monitor and an extra pair of ears.

In general, throughout its existence, RinneRadio has refused to identify with any particular narrow genre of electronic music. The common denominator is the band’s own sound, which, for lack of a better name, could be called techno-jazz or ambient jazz. It pulsates deeply and captivatingly at the same time – it is holistic, stirring and flaming. The band’s sound continues to glow electric blue and sunshine orange – inviting you to live in the moment, together.
