On the eve of Finland’s Independence Day, RNO TANGO and Hannu Lehtonen will perform songs from the decades of war and peace in independent Finland.

Songs about sorrow, hope, remembrance and forgetting. In the history of Finnish tango, it is not only nations that have been against each other, but the tango of opposition has also played between rural and urban, youth and adults, high culture and popular culture. From Toivo Kärki’s wartime classics, via reconstruction-era rowdiness and Unto Mononen’s idylls to the works of Kaj Chydenius and other greats of literary tango.
