Rock poetry and early music join hands in Ensemble Nylandia’s dark, story-driven concert!

The ensemble, laced with wine and tobacco smoke, takes the audience on a hazy journey, taking them through the dark corners of the 17th-century English court to the rock clubs of the Bowery in 1970s New York, not forgetting Finnish rock.

The program has collected songs by singer-songwriters from different eras, with unconventional stories behind their lyrics.

They tell about lust, betrayal, madness, petty gossip, moments of unexpected happiness, drunken fooling around and overwhelming sadness. As the listeners learn about the moments when the songs were created and the backgrounds of the songwriters, the stories grow in layers and their meanings deepen, become more precise or sometimes even change their tone completely.

In the end, it is often about what is lacking: the underlying theme of the stories, regardless of the century, is love and the conflicts it causes, in one way or another.
