May 22 – Jun 14, 2025
Ala-Malmin tori 1, 00700 Helsinki
”I Love You, Alligator” explores how to navigate today´s distressing world – how to overcome the fear of death and the horror.
And how to face the weight of being human with humor, color, and uplifting messages drawn from art history.
Sanna Halme (b. 1975, Joensuu) brings expressive acrylic and oil paintings to Malmitalo, inviting the audience into a world of wild colors.
Opening May 21, 2025 17–19, welcome!
“When creating my exhibitions, I often start with a title. This time, I started with a photograph – a picture of me at the Athens Zoo, leaning against a crocodile enclosure. Squinting into the sunlight, I almost look like a crocodile myself. But is there really such a big difference between an old, dangerous reptile and dangerous mammal – us humans? Both love to bask in the sun. Both destroy to survive. In my work, the alligator symbolizes everything frightening: death, disappearing forests, the uncertainty of the future. My paintings explore these difficult themes in the only way I know: through color. Step in and let yourself be carried away by intense emotions! Works were created in Uusikaupunki in 2023-2024”, says Halme.
