Come and experience a unique tribute concert honouring the extensive musical legacy of Greece’s most important composer of the 20th century, Mikis Theodorakis (1925-2021). Theodorakis left a lasting mark on Greek culture and his works still appeal to new generations.

Maria Farantouri, the acclaimed interpreter and muse of Theodorakis’ music, shines on the stage, and her soulful and expressive voice brings the composer’s spirit to life. She will be accompanied by vocalist Thanasis Voutsas and a five-person ensemble of top musicians. The programme will feature the composer’s most beloved works, with a touching journey into the world of Theodorakis’ music.

Mikis Theodorakis was a composer, writer, philosopher and human rights advocate known for his political activity. He composed extensively classical music, film music (including the Zorba’s dance, oratorios and songs drawn from Greek folklore and poetry. Theodorakis was a visible symbol of resistance during the Greek military junta and fought all his life for freedom and peace. Theodorakis’ compositions cross genre lines, combining Greek folk music, classical music and avantgarde.

Maria Farantouri is an internationally acclaimed Greek singer, especially known for her collaboration with Mikis Theodorakis. Farantouri has performed the composer’s best-known works, such as the Mauthausen cycle around the world, and has been a strong advocate of hope and justice. She has been called “the Callas of the People” after Maria Callas, the most famous opera singer of her time who had the same first name.
