Somnium Ensemble: I Dare
Mar 6, 2025 | 7:00 pm – 8:45 pm
Ritarikatu 1, 00170 Helsinki
Somnium Ensemble’s concert at the House of Nobility presents choral music by contemporary composers.
The main work will be the world premiere of Hyväksyminen (Acceptance), composed by Aki Yli-Salomäki and with lyrics by Auli Särkiö, for mixed choir, piano, and electronics.
The work delves into the difficulty of acceptance through a stream-of-consciousness-like internal dialogue that reaches both universal themes of good and evil and everyday social phenomena, such as loneliness, depression, and addictions.
Acceptance is a state, a resonating landscape of the mind.
Rather than addressing current news flows and fashionable contemporary topics, the work explores something deeper, something that is both timeless and painfully relevant.
The themes of acceptance are introduced through works by Alex Freeman, Juhani Komulainen, and Laura Hawley. All of these works deal with feelings of mental constriction, anxiety, and loneliness.
The feeling of hope eventually emerges when one dares to accept their own smallness and powerlessness.
